The Prosecuting Attorney is the chief legal officer of the county. The responsibilities include the prosecution of all crimes, both misdemeanors and felonies, within the county. Additionally, the prosecuting attorney acts as legal advisor to the County Commission and other county officials.
Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Jason Wharton was elected in November 2008. Prior to this election as Prosecuting Attorney, Wharton served as an Assistant Wood County Prosecuting Attorney for ten years. Wharton has also served as the Prosecuting Attorney for the City of Vienna and previously held a cross-designation as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia.
Prosecuting Attorney's office is located in the Judge Black Annex on the end of the building facing the courthouse.
